Trade talk: Barbara Steiner

Tuesday 10 December, 7–8.30 pm

Steiner will introduce Carte Blanche (2009–11), a project she initiated during her time as director at the influential Gallery of Contemporary Art Leipzig. The project invited eleven individuals and enterprises to set up an exhibition at the public gallery ‘in their own interest’, and thus revealed and represented the various economic, political and cultural strategies and realities involved in exhibition making. Since January 2012 Barbara Steiner has been the Artistic Director of Europe (to the power of) n, a collaborative project that takes place in 10 cities in and outside the European Union. As a writer she contributes frequently to the Fair Observer. Her interest focuses on politics of representation; institutional critique/criticality, architecture and display; and economic critique/criticality in the field of art and museums.
